China Inaugurates Globe's Longest Direct Flight Route

(MENAFN) China Eastern Airlines has inaugurated what it claims is the globe's longest direct commercial flight path, connecting Shanghai with Buenos Aires, Argentina, via a technical stop in Auckland, New Zealand, state media confirmed Thursday.

Flight MU745 departed Shanghai Pudong International Airport at 2:19 a.m. local time, the media reported.

The mammoth journey spans nearly 20,000 kilometers (12,427 miles) and necessitates a refueling stopover in Auckland, New Zealand.

The carrier asserts this route establishes a new benchmark as the world's longest one-way flight operation.

Passengers can expect travel time reductions exceeding four hours when journeying between China and South America, the airline announced.

China Eastern Airlines will maintain two round-trip services weekly along this newly established route.
